Yorke Peninsula Limestone is a relatively soft, easily worked fossiliferous limestone belonging to the Port Willunga Formation which was laid down as coastal marine deposits during the Oligocene Miocene Epochs (15-30 million years ago). 

The Limestone has a purity of approximately 90 per cent Calcium Carbonate (calcite) and occurs in consistent horizontal bedding structures largely free of fissures, jointing, clay inclusions and other detrimental content. Yorke Peninsula Limestone weighs approximately 1450 kg per cubic metre.

The Limestone has an interesting fossiliferous texture containing marine bryozoan fossils and it exhibits subtle variations of off white, soft grey, cream, beige through to light brown colour.

Once quarried the moisture from within the Yorke Peninsula Limestone recedes and the limestone then tends to harden.

Yorke Peninsula Limestone is found beneath 0.5 to 2 metres of hard Calcrete, thereafter the Yorke Peninsula Limestone extends for a depth of approximately 40 metres.

As the Yorke Peninsula Limestone is natural Australian product it is free of a number of industrial and transportation processes involved in producing alternative building products keeping embodied energy costs to a minimum.

The Limestone lends itself well to a number of building and landscaping applications including Large Walling Blocks, Building Blocks, Veneer Cladding, Sills, Mantles, Random Walling, Carving Blocks and special architectural products.

Our limestone may be Quarry Cut directly from the resource, displaying course saw markings. Alternatively for a smoother finish the Limestone can be Diamond Sawn on a recovery saw.

We also sell Calcrete Slabs (pictured bottom left) for landscaping and smaller Calcrete Walling Stone for restoration and landscaping applications.

All sawn products are placed on pallets for transport and securely packaged and labelled. Transport can be arranged to most any destination.
